WEBVTT 00:00.620 --> 00:03.044 Well, we're here today with two of our building 00:03.044 --> 00:05.872 practitioner compliance team members and we've got some 00:05.872 --> 00:08.851 pretty exciting news to share with you. So why don't I get 00:08.851 --> 00:11.528 you to introduce yourselves and tell the rest of the 00:11.528 --> 00:14.890 Building Commission team what you're up to? 00:14.890 --> 00:18.496 Hi, I'm Bhoomi. I'm a Principal Advisor Technical and my 00:18.496 --> 00:21.973 background is local government. I'm Jason. I'm also a 00:21.973 --> 00:25.128 Principal Technical Advisor and my background is 00:25.128 --> 00:28.610 structural engineering. 00:29.030 --> 00:35.090 So we have been working on an interesting project. 00:35.090 --> 00:39.841 Enthusiastically we have started wonderful project last 00:39.841 --> 00:45.470 year that will help the industry to build capabilities. 00:45.470 --> 00:50.140 We have been a regulator under the RAB Act space. 00:50.140 --> 00:54.035 So when we started enforcing the RAB Act, we started 00:54.035 --> 00:58.304 identifying a lot of defects. So this was an opportunity 00:58.304 --> 01:02.798 for us to build a list from what our inspectors see on site 01:02.798 --> 01:07.143 and feedback that list and share it with the industry. So 01:07.143 --> 01:11.413 Jason is going to run us and talk about this project and 01:11.413 --> 01:14.840 show us what we have been doing. 01:14.840 --> 01:18.708 Thanks Bhoomi. So our project is really has a site based 01:18.708 --> 01:22.237 component and a office space component. And what we 01:22.237 --> 01:26.037 discovered was that when we were on site, we had to cut 01:26.037 --> 01:29.837 short our time on site because we were spending so much 01:29.837 --> 01:33.909 time in the office doing the reporting. We've invested in a 01:33.909 --> 01:37.913 new tool called I Auditor, which is intended to link those 01:37.913 --> 01:41.849 two areas. So I'll just give you a quick demonstration of 01:41.849 --> 01:44.460 the tool. 01:44.710 --> 01:49.605 All inspectors have an iPad that they can use and this tool 01:49.605 --> 01:53.929 is an app that links to our defects library. So what 01:53.929 --> 01:58.579 happens is when they see a defect, for example when they 01:58.579 --> 02:03.474 see a waterproofing defect, they can have access to all the 02:03.474 --> 02:08.370 different prefilled defects and if they were to tick one it 02:08.370 --> 02:13.183 prompts them to add notes and add photos. This tool is 02:13.183 --> 02:13.600 now up and running. 02:13.600 --> 02:18.000 Linked back to our, 02:18.310 --> 02:22.486 Intel and dashboard area, so we can see a live report 02:22.486 --> 02:26.519 of all the observations that the various inspectors are 02:26.519 --> 02:30.624 making on site and you can see the different trends 02:30.624 --> 02:34.657 that we're seeing based on the different defects in the 02:34.657 --> 02:39.430 different building elements and that are linking back to 02:39.430 --> 02:43.620 our defects library. 02:45.320 --> 02:48.745 Thanks, Jason. So predominantly, we have been capturing 02:48.745 --> 02:51.926 this data for Class 2 buildings, that's residential 02:51.926 --> 02:55.352 apartment buildings. But Jason, can you also talk about 02:55.352 --> 02:58.838 what are the buildings that we might be targeting? Yeah, 02:58.838 --> 03:02.509 because of the introduction of RAP and DBP into Class 3 and 03:02.509 --> 03:05.995 Class 9c, we are building out that capability within the 03:05.995 --> 03:09.543 current defects library. And with the introduction of the 03:09.543 --> 03:13.153 proactive regulation within Class 1 space last year, we're 03:13.153 --> 03:14.670 also building out that 03:14.670 --> 03:18.758 within the Class 1 as well. So certifiers you 03:18.758 --> 03:22.778 are our Co-regulators. We will be sharing this information with you 03:22.778 --> 03:26.662 by end of this month. So be ready and assist us minimize 03:26.662 --> 03:28.990 defects. 03:28.990 --> 03:32.212 Well, thank you guys, because I think that's just another 03:32.212 --> 03:35.323 example of the many initiatives that are going on around 03:35.323 --> 03:38.434 Building Commission NSW at the moment. This is going to 03:38.434 --> 03:41.768 create a constant ability for the industry to learn off what 03:41.768 --> 03:44.768 we're seeing in the field. The first beneficiaries of 03:44.768 --> 03:48.101 course, as you've called out will be Certifiers. At the end 03:48.101 --> 03:51.435 of this month we'll make a library available to certifiers, 03:51.435 --> 03:54.713 but at the end of June we're going to make it available to 03:54.713 --> 03:57.879 Strata Communities so they can actually have a tool that 03:57.879 --> 04:00.120 will help them report into 04:00.120 --> 04:03.695 Building Commission NSW, the defects that they're seeing in 04:03.695 --> 04:07.211 their buildings and ultimately we want this into universities 04:07.211 --> 04:10.549 so students can start to see this. So this work has got 04:10.549 --> 04:13.946 extraordinary potential and it's just another example of 04:13.946 --> 04:17.462 the many things that are being done in Building Commission NSW 04:17.462 --> 04:20.859 today to actually join up stuff that may have been a 04:20.859 --> 04:24.434 little bit disconnected historically. So very exciting work 04:24.434 --> 04:27.891 and thank you very much, Jason and Bhoomi for this insight 04:27.891 --> 04:31.120 today. 04:31.120 --> 04:34.273 If people want to reach 04:34.273 --> 04:37.372 out to you and get a bit of information more, they can do 04:37.372 --> 04:40.579 so. So so please take advantage of that. Go to BuildingCommission@customerservice.nsw.gov.au 04:40.579 --> 04:43.679 It's great work and the more you all know about it, the better 04:43.679 --> 04:46.000 Cheer's.
